In which I pretend like anyone actually still cares about my haircut

Okay Matt and Linda and Mom teeming masses, you've spoken, here are your befores and afters.

(Before: B&Q's caroling party. Almost as adorable a photo as this one.)

(After: You may recognize my "I'm taking a picture of myself to post on the internet. That's awkward." expression from other such awkward pictures of myself posted on the internet. Actually it looks suspiciously like R's expression in the first picture.)

And, for good measure, my jerryrigged mirror:

(Nowhere near as good as the incredible machine. But I wasn't proposing to anyone, just cutting my hair. It did the trick.)

  1. Yup, pretty short. Looks good!
    Thanks, the mom who cares.

  2. I like it both ways!

You know I hear you on your hair identity crisis. The best thing about the birthright trip is all the good jewish girls straightening their hair.

  3. At my age (somewhere between Bill Clinton and Mick Jagger, so OLD) I still fret about my hair. I'd say in any given month I like it about 6 days and the rest I curse it... Are all females like this?

  4. It looks cute--the same as the "before" but shorter. Sooo... mission accomplished then. Carry on.

  5. Important correction to my recent post: my age is between Barack Obama and Mick Jagger. I am actually younger than Bill Clinton!! Not by much but every little bit helps. Just had to clear that up, folks.

  6. Learn something new every day. Or at least the good days. I was scoffing to myself at your misspelling of "jury-rigged," but thought I'd see what Ye Olde Internet turned up.

"jerry-rigged" seems to have been around since at least 1959 (per the Merriam-Webster folks), so at the very least is a well-established mistake. "jerry-built" is an earlier coinage by about 90 years, but "jury-rigged" seems to be the oldest, from the 1780s.

All this without going downstairs and looking in the MW Dictionary of Word Origins, which may well have at least some amusing commentary, if not more actual data.

P.S. Short hair looks good! Long hair looked good too. And the rig, juried or jerried, is verr excellent.

  7. Hair? I got no problems with your hair but I just came for the jerryrigged mirror. Most excellent, no matter how you spell it.

  12. Thinking "forfend" too much isn't so bad, but overuse it? Heaven forbid!
